Last night Sidney Crosby took a puck to the face during a game against the New York Islanders. He got checked out by medical staff and was back in action that same period. But that’s not the story.
The story is that NHL fans can be pretty shitty. When Crosby went down, the spirits of fans were somehow lifted, and they cheered. If you’re naturally overcome by elation when a player (who has a history of head trauma) gets struck by a puck, you’ve definitely never played hockey, and also, you’re a bad person.
For various reasons, the Best Player in the World doesn’t get the respect that he deserves, and it’s kind of a shame. Oh how soon NHL fans forget how much of Sid’s personal time was devoted to getting the CBA done. He could have easily played overseas, or vacationed like his collegues, but no, he chose to sit through meeting after meeting in various boardrooms in New York and Toronto in an attempt to bring back the game we all love. And as a sign of appreciation, fans cheer when he gets injured. You’re all really cool, you know that?
Here’s a breakdown of the incident
So there you have it, Crosby got hit, fans cheered, he came back minutes later, and the Pens won the game 4-2. Check out the video courtesy of SB Nation below.
